How Overtime Pay Is Calculated
- Work out the monthly wage: base pay plus fixed allowances. If there are variable allowances and base pay plus fixed allowances is under 75% of total pay, use 75% of total pay.
- Work out the hourly wage: the monthly wage divided by 173.
- Multiply the hourly wage by the rate for each overtime hour, based on the type of day and working week.
- Add up every hour to get that day's overtime pay.
Overtime Rates per Hour
| Type of day | Rate (times the hourly wage) |
|---|---|
| Working day | Hour 1: 1.5×. Hours 2 to 4: 2×. |
| Day off, 5-day week | Hours 1 to 8: 2×. Hour 9: 3×. Hours 10 to 12: 4×. |
| Day off, 6-day week | Hours 1 to 7: 2×. Hour 8: 3×. Hours 9 to 11: 4×. |
| Public holiday on the shortest working day, 6-day week | Hours 1 to 5: 2×. Hour 6: 3×. Hours 7 to 9: 4×. |
Worked Examples
Base pay and fixed allowances of Rp5,190,000 a month give an hourly wage of Rp30,000. Three overtime hours on a working day: the first hour is 1.5 × Rp30,000 = Rp45,000, then 2 hours × 2 × Rp30,000 = Rp120,000. The total is Rp165,000.
With the same wage, 9 overtime hours on a day off in a 5-day week: 8 hours × 2 × Rp30,000 = Rp480,000, plus hour 9 at 3 × Rp30,000 = Rp90,000. The total is Rp570,000.
Overtime Limits and Conditions
- Overtime on working days is limited to 4 hours a day and 18 hours a week, not counting overtime on weekly rest days or public holidays.
- Overtime requires an instruction from the employer and the employee's consent, in writing and/or through digital media. The company also keeps a record listing who worked overtime and for how long.
- During overtime, the company must allow adequate rest. For overtime of 4 hours or more, it must provide food and drink of at least 1,400 kilocalories, which cannot be replaced with money.
- For employees paid daily, the monthly wage is the daily wage times 25 on a 6-day week or times 21 on a 5-day week.
- If a company already pays overtime under another name at the same or a better value, that arrangement still applies.
Legal Basis
The calculator and explanations on this page follow Articles 26 to 34 of PP 35/2021. The DPR passed the UU Pelindungan Ketenagakerjaan (Employment Protection Law) on 6 October 2026. Until its official text is promulgated and its implementing rules take effect, overtime pay is still calculated under PP 35/2021. This page will be updated when the new rules apply.
Recording Overtime with OmahKu HRIS
Correct overtime pay starts with accurately recorded hours. In OmahKu HRIS, employees request overtime and managers assign it through an approval process, attendance is recorded with GPS and geofence clock-ins, and HR reviews attendance, leave, and overtime reports with an audit trail. That gives a clear basis for calculating overtime pay.
